Deliveroo has rolled out its Rider Appreciation Week, which will run until 14 August, in recognition of Deliveroo riders’ hard work and dedication to serving the Hong Kong community.

To thank the 12,000 Deliveroo riders in Hong Kong, especially during the sweltering months of summer, the Deliveroo team will head down to the streets, visiting ten districts across the city to offer special perks and rewards to its fleet, in addition to tip-matching. Deliveroo customers are encouraged to show their thanks for riders by tipping them through the Deliveroo app, with the company matching the amount of tips in 12-14 August.

According to the press release, since the outbreak of COVID-19, riders have served as important front-liners. They deliver food and grocery to consumers while they stay home and support restaurants to sustain their business with delivery revenue. To thank their hard work, Deliveroo will match customers' tips up to HK$30 per order this weekend. For example, if customers give their rider a tip of HK$20, Deliveroo will also pay the rider HK$20, bringing the total take-home tip for that order to HK$40. Deliveroo hopes that by doing so, it can reward riders for their efforts and recognise their enormous contributions to the battle against the epidemic.

As a token of Deliveroo’s appreciation, a five-day street event will be held to engage thousands of riders across the neighbourhoods of Mong Kok, Kwun Tong,Tsuen Wan, Causeway Bay, Tai Wai, Tseung Kwan O, Quarry Bay, Tuen Mun, Yuen Long, and Tai Po, with kit replacements and giveaways from 8 to 12 August.

The kits come equipped with small thermal bags and goodies, such as reflective stickers, branded sleeves, and masks. Hand sanitiser bottles will also be dispersed, along with thermal bag disinfectant services, which will be provided to all walk-in riders. In addition, to help the fleet cope with the recent high temperatures, riders can pick up soft or energy drinks and chat with the Deliveroo rider engagement team to share their feedback during the period.

Andrew Hui, general manager of Deliveroo Hong Kong, said, “At Deliveroo, our top priority is our riders’ wellbeing, including their health and safety. I’m pleased to see Rider Appreciation Week kick-off as our latest initiative to show thanks to our fleet, as they are a fundamental pillar of our business. For nearly three years, they have provided an essential front-line service, delivering food to Hong Kongers’ doors, and all the while keeping our restaurant partners resilient against the challenges brought by social distancing measures under the pandemic. It’s been incredible to watch our fleet grow and serve more of the Hong Kong community – especially when it needed it the most.”

“It goes without saying, our riders have been working devotedly to fulfil delivery orders, ensuring that we all get whatever essentials we need from the comfort of our own homes. We highly encourage customers to join us in showing appreciation for them with simple acts of kindness and use the tipping feature generously this weekend and even throughout the year,” Hui added.
