The dUCK Group is launching The Merdeka dUCk collection which showcases the culture and tradition of Malaysia. To showcase the story behind each individual piece of the collection, dUCk is hosting a mini art gallery at its flagship store in Bangsar Village until 26 August, to bring an interactive experience to its customers.
The Merdeka dUCk is made up of 14 scarves, representing Malaysia’s 13 states and federal territories, and designed in collaboration with local artists from professional mural company Art Battalion, and a premium knit range of ready-to-wear. The collective artists in Art Battalion, led by famous muralist Yaulacap, are known to create bespoke murals and uplift the Malaysian spirit with their art. Vivy Yusof, co-founder of the dUCk Group, told
that this is its most patriotic collection.
The scarves are adorned with a hanging silver charm and packed in a custom collectible box. They are exclusively available for purchase online and in-app. Meanwhile, the premium knit range comprise a lightweight cardigan embroidered with pieces and parts of Malaysia, available in five designs, including North, South, East, West and Borneo. The knit range will be presented in special packaging, wrapped in batik cloth, synonymous with Malaysia’s traditional culture.
Additionally, Art Battalion brought its artwork from scarf to street in Bangsar as an emotive way to promote local cultures and celebrate the unity of Malaysians. The mural is painted on the walls along the lower ground level of dUCk Café at Bangsar Village. Visitors can get a mystery gift from dUCK when they post a picture with the mural on Instagram.
Vivy said that the company has always aspired to lift up local talents. “This year, we wanted to feature each state in Malaysia and thought it would be meaningful to have a local artist design each state so we reached out to our talented friends at Art Batallion led by Yaulacap. Our last collaboration of handpainted dUCk bags sold out in three minutes and shocked us, we are so glad that customers also respond well to our collaboration,” she said.
“It's been an exciting and blissful journey to get the chance to work with a leading brand such as dUCk. Ever since we started expressing our art from the street view through murals, we are grateful and thankful for the opportunities given to us,” said Aizat Zainal, co-founder of Art Battalion. He explained that the collaboration with the dUCK group is a good starting point for local artists to showcase their talent and skills to a bigger crowd. “The immersion of art and culture is shaping the trend globally, and we are thrilled to partner with dUCk to share our love for Malaysia. We hope the Merdeka dUCk by Art Battalion will be well-received and become one of the significant favourites for dUCkies,” Zainal said.
In June, the dUCk Group rolled out its newly revamped and relocated dUCk store which touted a playhouse concept. Located at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, the store was specially designed to create immersive, visually appealing experiences for its customers with its playhouse elements.
Last year, it partnered with Hasbro for a limited-edition MONOPOLY board game as well as a collection of scarves and fashion accessories such as bags and keychains. Through the game, Yusof aimed to inspire individuals to discover and chase after ambitions while cherishing friends and family. "This is not just a nod to diversity but a meaningful representation for the hijabi community", she said.
